Overview

The DZL Mentoring Program “Careers in Respiratory Medicine” aims to foster a network of excellent early career scientists and clinicians working in biomedical sciences / medicine and to raise future lung community leaders for executive-level positions requiring management and leadership skills. The primary target group includes clinical fellows, post-doctoral fellows, and junior PIs early in their career development.

Each of the mentees is accompanied by an individually selected mentor who supports them in their personal and professional development. The program is complemented by workshops and soft skills courses, for example in the fields of project management / basics of science management/ communication / interviewing / conflict management, leadership and interpersonal skills.

The DZL mentoring program was initiated in 2014 and kicked off with a Get-together at the 4th Annual Meeting of the DZL in January 2015 in Hamburg. Since then, 22 highly motivated scientists from partners of the five DZL sites qualified for participation in the program and profit from regular workshops and meetings with their mentors and their peers.
