A wide range of imaging approaches is used in the life sciences to understand living systems and to support the drug discovery processes.  The platform “Imaging” has been established as a network of complementing expertise and infrastructure within the DZL to ensure scientific exchange and access to cutting-edge imaging technologies in research. Comprising radiology and microscopy, the platform "Imaging" aims to identify and benefit from the interfaces between them. The core function of the platform is to offer, disseminate and share imaging technology.

Our mission is to conduct state-of-the-art lung research and provide services for the DZL community that encompass the entire range of imaging modalities (CT, micro-CT, MRI, PET, FMT) and resolution levels (optical coherence tomography, advanced light microscopy, electron microscopy and electron tomography.) Our goal is to ensure data quality, comparability and translation of results obtained at the partner sites for the whole range of preclinical and translational studies as well as clinical trials. The DZL platform “Imaging” will implement standards of advanced lung imaging by providing active practical advice and support.

Core Tasks

The platform joins complementary imaging and microscopy expertise existing at the various partner sites and facilitates the conduct of projects across partner sites. To facilitate the exploitation of data collected the platform will establish a central imaging database which is located in Heidelberg and managed by its Translational Lung Research Centre. The database will comply with the ethical and legal framework, data protections rules and the corresponding body of rules and regulations in operation at the partner sites within the DZL.

Equipment / Facilities

Transparency and dissemination of techniques is also an important objective of the Platform "Imaging". Information about the existing technical equipment in radiology and microscopy related to the various working groups and their expertise at the different sites of the DZL have been collected and combined in an infrastructure directory which is available to DZL-members via the DZL-Intranet.
